Key University Dates
The academic year at the University of Tasmania consists
of two semesters. Each semester has:
- 13 weeks of teaching,
- 1 week mid-semester break
- 1 week for revision time (study break)
- 2 weeks (semester 1) and 3 weeks (semester 2) for examinations.
Each academic year commences in late February.
The first mid semester break is at Easter time (late March/early April) and exams are in June.
Second semester commences in mid July with a break in late August/early September. Exams commence late October and conclude in the second week of November.
Please note these dates when booking flights home or making
holiday arrangements.
Students can commence their studies at the beginning of
either Semester 1 or 2 (some courses do not have a Semester
2 intake, and therefore those students can only commence
their studies in February).
Public Holidays
The university only recognises state and nationwide public holidays. Regional holidays do not effect the academic timetable.
