Travelling to Tasmania

Booking Flights to Australia

When booking flights, please ask your travel agent to book you through to your final destination. There is no international airport in Tasmania, therefore you will have to transfer from an international flight to a domestic flight. There are airports at both Launceston and Hobart and four airlines fly to Tasmania from major cities in Australia.

Arriving in Australia

After you leave your international flight you will:

  • have your visa checked
  • clear Customs
  • be able to change money
  • transfer to a domestic flight to Launceston or Hobart.
Immigration and Customs

Prior to landing, Australian Immigration and Customs forms will be handed to each passenger. Complete these on the plane before landing. You may be fined A$200 to A$2000 if you do not tell Customs officials about restricted products you are bringing into Australia. For information about what can and cannot be brought into Australia, please refer to Australian Customs Service and Australian Quarantine

Special Note regarding currency: Amounts of $A10000 or more, or equivalent in foreign currency (meaning notes and coins of legal tender), must be reported when you arrive in Australia or depart from Australia. If you do not declare that you are carry this currency, you may be fined.

When you leave the plane, you will queue to have your passport and Immigration form checked by an Immigration Officer. Then you collect your luggage and show your Customs Declaration form to a Customs Officer. If you have goods to declare you will be asked about the goods you declared and your bags may be searched.

If in doubt declare goods!
