Study Tours and Short Courses
The University of Tasmania can provide the perfect study tour or short
course for virtually any group! You supply a group of more than eight
people, tell us what you want and we can design a program to suit you!
Being part of the University of Tasmania, short courses and study tours we run are able to draw upon all the resources, expertise and facilities the University offers.
As a result we can provide programs covering such diverse topics as education, environmental science, law, nursing, geology, Antarctic studies and much, much more.
Programs we have run in the past reflect this diversity: we have had students as young as eight years old, Japanese Nursing students, Judo teams, Horticultural Students, Japanese traditional musicians and a wide range of English/ Aussie culture groups.
By working closely with your school or group leader we design a program which best suits your needs. Programs run from four days to six weeks and can include a wide range of academic and recreational elements.
English Courses?
For example, imagine you are teaching English in Korea and thinking of sending a group of thirty Senior High School students overseas to improve their English and experience a foreign culture.
We could design a program with special English classes in the morning and cultural activities such as sight seeing, horse riding, white water rafting, Australian Sports, sea kayaking, aboriginal studies, wildlife experiences and visits to local Senior High Schools in the afternoons.
The program would be designed so that the morning language classes prepare the students for the afternoon activities and would be created to match your students' linguistic level. All language components of our Short Courses are taught by experienced, qualified teachers who are regular staff at the University of Tasmania's English Language Centre.
Non English Courses?
We are aware that not all groups are interested in English studies. There are many groups who would like to give their members a little international experience in a specific field rather than concentrate on language skills. In the past we have run several successful study tours for Nursing and Horticultural students. If English isn't your native language we can arrange interpreters and activities which are not so reliant on language skills. There's no reason to let language be a barrier!
What kind of support will my students have?
Living overseas in a foreign culture and often a foreign language is an extremely challenging undertaking for anyone. Living with a family of perfect strangers can add to the stress. Participants in our Short Course/ Study Tour Programs receive general orientation, have access to a wide range of student counsellors and advisors and have a Group Supervisor assigned to ensure the program runs smoothly. We provide caring, experienced staff who are available to talk about any issue and ensure that all students have as much advice and support as they need during their time in Tasmania.
What kinds of activities can my group participate in?
Aside from your specific field of interest study tour/ short course participants can make use of all the facilities available to other University of Tasmania students: gyms, libraries, computer labs, aerobics classes, discount movie tickets, concerts....
Being located in Tasmania allows us to arrange small trips into Tasmania's pristine wilderness areas. Where else in the world can you go shopping in the morning, visit an Antarctic Adventure Centre and come face to face with a wild Tasmanian devil in the afternoon?
We can create an exciting program for you and your students including recreational activities as diverse as white water rafting, tall-ship sailing, arts and crafts, historic walks, horse riding and so on. You name it we can do it!
How would your students like to go skiing in August? Or enjoy a trip to the beach in January? Our seasons are opposite to the Northern Hemisphere but at any time of the year Tasmania's climate is comfortable. Not too hot, not too cold, not too much rain.
How much?
Because each program is different each program is individually costed. The larger the group the cheaper the programs tend to be. We can also design programs to meet your budget.
