Campus Information - Hobart Campus

The University's campus at Hobart is set on one hundred hectares at Sandy Bay, not far from the city centre and on the River Derwent. It has the magnificent Mt Wellington as its backdrop and much of the upper campus of the University is in natural bushland.

The campus caters for around 9,500 students with many of the faculties on site.

Two parts of the University that are closer to the city centre are the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and the Centre for the Arts. The Clinical School of the Faculty of Medicine is also in the city next to the Royal Hobart Hospital.  Most students find accommodation either on campus or nearby.  The new University apartments are very popular with students.

The Union Building at Hobart houses a cafeteria (The Refectory), a mixed shop, a post office, a book shop, a hairdresser, a bar, banks, the student health service, a travel agent and the Contact Centre.

The Contact Centre is an information centre and service. Among its many services is sending and receiving faxes for students.

Textbooks and stationery required for University courses can be purchased at the bookshop. A student discount applies on all books. Second hand textbooks are also stocked.

The Sport & Recreation Centre

The Sport & Recreation Centre on the Hobart Campus offers students a comprehensive range of individual exercise equipment and activities, as well as the opportunity to participate in social sports.

Facilities include:

Central Science Laboratory

It also provides certain Federal Government and State Government organisations and local industries with access to sophisticated equipment and scientific services.
