City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a prestigious institution in tertiary education in the Asia Pacific region. As a forward-looking University dedicated to professional education and research, CityU offers over 140 academic programmes at different levels across a diverse range of areas, including some innovative cross disciplinary subjects, through the departments and divisions of the Colleges of Business; Humanities and Social Sciences; Science and Engineering, and the Schools of Creative Media; Energy and Environment; Law; Energy and Environment and Graduate Studies.
A major part of CityU’s success lies in its excellence in research. The University focuses on problem-driven research with direct local and regional relevance so that the results can benefit Hong Kong and beyond. The University has set up six University Research Centres, eight College Research Centres, and three Applied Strategic Developments Centres on campus. In addition, there are four Applied R&D Centres in the Pearl River Delta Region.
Centrally located in Hong Kong and well connected, the CityU campus provides a vibrant environment congenial to learning, working and living to the University’s staff and students. Many of our teachers are experts recruited from around the world, bringing with them not only professional knowledge but also different perspectives and cultures. Together with the 2,500 international and non-local students we receive every year, they help create a multi-cultural community in which diversity, acceptance and integration are appreciated.
CityU is a relatively young institution with a short history of 26 years. Yet within this span of time, it has made tremendous progress and established strong academic links on the mainland and overseas We are now Asia’s 15th top university (Quacquarelli Symonds, 2010) and the world’s 124th (The Times Higher Education Supplement, 2009). International recognition is a pleasing reward for our hard work. It can be assured that, in the years to come, CityU’s faculty and staff, students, graduates and supporters will continue to contribute to the growth of the institution into a leading global university.
