Exchange for UTAS Students
Scholarships for 2013 Outgoing Exchange
UTAS Tasmania Scholarships:
There are two types of scholarships available:
- Tasmanian Overseas Scholarship
The closing dates for these are October 31 and June 30 for the following semesters respectively. UTAS students must apply to participate as an exchange student with one of UTAS’ formal exchange partners to be eligible for an Overseas Student Exchange scholarship. Awarding of scholarships is based on merit and the quality of the exchange application.
An exchange student can receive more than one scholarship. That is, a UTAS student can apply for and be awarded a scholarship from their Faculty as well as the Tasmanian Overseas Scholarship. However, if a UTAS student receives a scholarship from their Faculty, the Tasmanian Overseas Scholarship amount awarded will be reduced. OS-HELP
The OS-Help loan provides financial assistance to eligible Australian Government supported students. Eligible students may borrow from $1000 for one or two overseas study periods. If you are an Australian Citizen or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa you are eligible to apply.
As of January 1st 2010, there is no loan fee for the OS-HELP loan. Your OS-HELP debt is added to your accumulated HELP debt.
Study at University of Copenhagen
The University of Copenhagen provides 2 awards to any Australian Exchange Partnership university. The award is valued at approximately $2,200 and intended to be a contribution towards living expenses. It is available to current undergraduate students studying in Humanities, Social Science or Economics.
In addition, there is a Crown Princess Mary Scholarship valued at $3000.

Klagenfurt University, Austria
Cost of accommodation (6 months) for UTAS students and a free 7 week intensive German course.
Johannes Kepler University
JKU is offering a scholarship at their discretion to exchange students wishing to participate in study. For information please refer to the application form.
Global Environmental Sustainability Project (GESP)
Open to students from Faculty of Science, Environmental Studies to participate at either the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Life Sciences & Faculty of Science; University of Wroclaw; University of Dundee or Johannes Kepler University. Finnish Government Scholarship Pool
The Centre for International Mobility CIMO will offer scholarships for Australian nationals in the academic year 2012-2013 to undertake postgraduate and research study in Finland. UTAS currently has an exchange partner relationship with Ostrobothinia University of Applied Science in Finland. UTAS students interested in undertaking exchange at this institution should contact student.mobility@utas.edu.au
Chung-Ang University (CAU) Dragon Scholarship, Korea
The Chung-Ang University (CAU) Scholarship is offered to Exchange students from Partner Universities who speak fluent English.
Recipients of the scholarship work in CAU’s English Lounge (E-lounge) of their International Affairs Office, or other offices of different departments on campus
The idea is to help native Chung-Ang University students improve their conversational skills by improving their level of speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
You will be required to help Cau’s International Affairs Office with tasks that are English related. Be assigned projects such as: research on prospective Universities for our global partnership program, maintaining relations with our International Students through Facebook, and helping with administrative work related to the E-lounge.
Selection is based upon your short-essay on why you should be selected to receive the Dragon Scholarship.
CAU Dragon Scholarship recipients will work 10-12 hours a week depending on their assignments and a stipend of approximately $1,000-$1,500 per semester will be paid depending on the amount of hours they work.
Baudin Travel Grants, France
The Baudin grants are designed to encourage Australian nationals to study for a semester or a full academic year at a French university at undergraduate or postgraduate level. The grant is a lump sum of A$2300 of bursary money.
Applicants are required to apply against Selection criteria with students who supply evidence of prior knowledge of French enhancing their chances of selection.
Application will open Mid February 2013 and Close Mid May.

Japan
The Australia Governments Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education has funded a number of International Student Exchange Program scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5000 for Exchange Students studying to apply for a semester at one of our partner Universities in Japan. These scholarships are designed to assist with the costs associated with living and studying overseas.
All applicants who are approved by their Faculty for Exchange will automatically be assessed for the scholarships based upon academic merit and their 500 word essay.
To be eligible for this scholarship students must have a complete application form in by the application deadline on the 15th of March 2013.
Successful students will be notified upon approval into the UTAS Exchange program however payment is not guaranteed until the students has been successfully approved to study at a host Univerity.
Payment will be made to the students nominated account shortly before departure.
Sweden
The Australia Governments Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education has funded a limited number of International Student Exchange Program scholarships of $2,500 for Exchange Students studying to apply for a semester at one of our partner Universities in Sweden. These scholarships are designed to assist with the costs associated with living and studying overseas.
All applicants who are approved by their Faculty for Exchange will automatically be assessed for the scholarships based upon academic merit and their 500 word essay.
To be eligible for this scholarship students must have a complete application form in by the application deadline on the 15th of March 2013.
Successful students will be notified upon approval into the UTAS Exchange program however payment is not guaranteed until the students has been successfully approved to study at a host University.
Payment will be made to the students nominated account shortly before departure.
