Study Abroad or Exchange?

What is the difference between study abroad and exchange? To apply as an exchange student your home institution must have an exchange agreement with UTAS. You are nominated by your university to participate in an exchange for 1 or 2 semesters maximum.

If an exchange agreement is not in place with your home institution you can apply as a study abroad student (Tuition Fees applies). All other International applicants should apply directly to International Admissions.

Choosing Units

Please Check our Courses information link for further information about choosing suitable subjects. Consult with your faculty at your home institution whether these subjects can be credited back to your home degree.
Include the subjects that you wish to obtain approval for study at UTAS on the application form. The choice of subjects cannot always be guaranteed as some subjects are cancelled, have prerequisites or have a limited student quota.

Submitting Your Form

Send your application form to the Study Abroad and Exchange Coordinator for assessment and approval. You will be given information on how to proceed through the various stages of the admission procedure either from your home institution exchange coordinator (for exchange students) or agent (study abroad students) or directly (direct study abroad applicants).

Once your application has been submitted, you should not assume that you have been accepted until you receive an official offer of enrolment. Once you've read and accepted the offer, you will receive Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) which will enable you to apply for a student visa.
