Foundation Studies Program

After completing her O levels in Singapore, Joyce enrolled in the FSP as a preparation for a Bachelor degree in Marine Science.

“The Foundation Studies Program gave me a chance to improve my chemistry and mathematics as well as learning more about Australia’s history through Australian Studies.

Tasmania provides a very conducive learning environment and the people are friendly.

I would recommend the FSP at UTAS to anyone who is serious about undertaking study at university”.

Joyce is currently studying the Biological stream within a Bachelor of Marine Science at the University of Tasmania.

“The FSP really helped me a lot, especially in my preparation for university.  Through assignments and presentations in several subjects, I gained self-confidence and improved my skills in these areas which has been very useful for my assessments at university.

The teaching staff were very helpful and easy to approach for assistance throughout the program.  The timetable was well organised and the academic workloads were reasonable.

I like living in Hobart because it is not as busy as major cities in other states of Australia which provides for a better environment for learning and studying.

I would recommend the UTAS FSP as it provides a great opportunity for students to learn, especially in improving their communication and writing skills.”

Azam is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce at UTAS with majors in Accounting and Finance.

“The Foundation Studies Program gave me a really helpful background for the first year of study at university.

Teaching staff focused on the individual learning needs of each student and were helpful as well as being very well prepared.  The FSP Coordinator was one of the best teachers I have ever met and made lessons very interesting.

I enjoyed living in Tasmania because it is quite and the people are very friendly.”

Ambra was admitted to the Bachelor of Arts with majors in Psychology and Sociology in December 2005.

Malaysia
Foundation Studies Program

After completing high school in her home city of Kuching, Malaysia, Qing undertook the Foundation Studies Program in preparation for the UTAS Bachelor of Nursing degree.

“The Foundation Studies Program provided me with a comprehensive education in academic essay writing skills, a good foundation and head-start on my degree subjects, and increased my confidence in undertaking a degree.  I found that some university students who had not done the FSP struggled with things that I had been well prepared for.

Due to small classes and the amount of time we spent together, I was able to develop close-knit relationships with course mates.  This was a real highlight for me as was the cultural diversity of FSP students.

The FSP staff were always mindful that their students were in Australia for the first time and as such students’ overall needs, not just academic, were well taken care of.

I liked living in Tasmania for the simplicity of life, the clean air and environment, and the outdoor activities available.”

Qing Ling was placed on the Dean’s Roll of Excellence in 2004, graduated from the UTAS Bachelor of Nursing in August 2006, and is currently employed at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.
