The Menzies Research Institute Tasmania conducts innovative, world-class research to improve human health and well-being.

Menzies is the medical research institute of the University of Tasmania, works in close collaboration with the UTAS School of Medicine and Faculty of Health Science, and is a member of the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes and Research Australia.

Scholarship Information

These scholarships will be two-part - providing successful applicants with a tuition fee waiver and a living allowance at the current International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) rate and indexed annually. The 2012 annual IPRS living allowance is A$23,728.

Scholarship awardees will need to be able to commence their candidature in 2012 and meet standard eligibility requirements.

  • Agreement for Supervision by staff of the Menzies Research Institute Tasmania;
  • Academic entry requirements as determined by the University's Graduate Research Office (usually a Bachelor degree with first class honours and including the completion of a substantial research thesis, or equivalent); and
  • English language requirement of IELTS 6.5 with no individual band score lower than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL, PTE etc).

The scholarships are for full duration PhD onshore enrolments and candidates are expected to submit their thesis within 3.5 years of commencing their candidature.

Successful scholarship awardees will be required to cover the costs of travel to and from their home country and Tasmania to undertake the PhD program, Overseas Student Health Cover (health insurance), and Student Services and
Amenities Fee (A$263 in 2012).
