Registration and Orientation
The ELC holds an orientation program for every 5-week module. Orientation is held on the Friday before the commencement of each module except when public holidays fall on this date.
Orientation is compulsory for all new ELC students.
The Orientation program commences with Student Registration, during which ELC support staff confirm your arrival at the ELC and check that your course details are correct.
For new Pathway English (PE) students, Student Registration is followed by a placement test.
For new Direct Entry Academic Program (DEAP) and Foundation Studies Program (FSP) students, Student Registration is followed by either a DEAP- or FSP-specific Orientation with respective Program Managers.
All new students then meet with the Student Adviser, who will give students important information about living and studying in Tasmania, including:
- How to obtain a UTAS Student photo ID card
- UTAS computers and email accounts
- Student Visa conditions

- ELC and UTAS services and facilities
- Local services and facilities (e.g. shopping, banking, mobile phones & internet)

Following this information session, the Student Adviser will take students on a campus tour.
