Study Tours & Short Courses

The English Language Centre has been organising Study Tours and Short Course programs for students from senior high schools and universities since 1995. The 'well-aged' study tours course is also a popular program. Our short course/study tour co-ordinators will negotiate with institutions and agents to create the program you want. Students in these programs have full access to all University recreational, support and academic facilities including PC labs, libraries, sport facilities, medical and support staff.

English and social, cultural and recreational activities

Programs can combine English classes with a range of activities which can include, for example, visiting wineries, horse-riding, visiting popular tourist sites including national parks and zoos where students can feed native Australian and Tasmanian animals. These are just some of many activities available for you to select from.

Full-time English Language Classes

Study Tour and Short Course groups can join full-time English language classes for 25 hours each week. Groups will need to start and finish on particular dates.

TESOL Teacher training programs

The English Language Centre is an accredited TESOL Teacher-Training provider and is the state provider of IELTS testing and administration. We organise programs for English language which include:

  • TESOL Teaching Methodology for Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing
  • using coursebooks to encourage active student participation in class
  • teaching students in small groups
  • preparing students for an IELTS exam
  • observing teaching at the English Language Centre
  • visiting other schools and colleges to observe English language teaching to different students.

divingBeautiful Tasmania

Groups can study at the university campus in Hobart or Launceston. You can have classes held on the mountain, by the beach, in the forest. We can design programs with you that take your students all around Tasmania.

Group size

A student group can be as small as 5 students, up to 50 and even more. As the cost is based on the content of the program, the smaller the group the more expensive the program. If you are not sure how many students you will have, we are happy to create several options for different group sizes.
