About The English Language Centre

Quality English programs are offered on both the Launceston and Hobart campuses of the University of Tasmania (UTAS).  UTAS is a research led university, with a high standard of teaching and a strong and increasing international focus.  The English Language Centre (ELC) commenced its English programs in 1989 and the Centres provide a variety of innovative English language programs including General and Academic English and direct entry programs to UTAS.   

About our classes                     

  • Highly qualified, professional and experienced teachers
  • No more than 18 students in each class, an average of 15
  • Class level is decided after a placement test at orientation
  • After 5 weeks study, students may move up to the next class based on an assessment
  • Opportunity for self study in our modern facilities
  • A Final Report and Completion Certificate are issued at the end of the course
