Booking Flights
There is no international airport in Tasmania, so most students will fly into either Sydney or Melbourne. Students will need to transfer to a domestic flight to Tasmania.
IMPORTANT
Make sure you book your flight to the right city in Tasmania – Launceston OR Hobart – as the two cities are approximately 2 ½ hours apart.
Immigration and Customs
Before landing in Australia, Australian Customs forms will be handed to each passenger to complete. Fines of up to AUD2,000 can apply if you do not tell Customs officials about restricted products you are bringing into Australia. Important: Amounts of more than AUD10,000 in any currency must be reported on arrival or departure.
After leaving the plane an Immigration officer checks each passport, a Customs official will check Customs declaration forms and may search passengers' luggage. After clearing Customs, students may wish to visit the Bureau Exchange to change some money to Australian dollars.
