Introduction to TESOL - Launceston
This is a four day introduction to the profession of TESOL. It is not a formal, recognised TESOL qualification, but simply a "taster" course offered for people who might want to enrol in a longer, more formal course (such as the Cambridge CELTA). It will include:
- the basics of English grammar and pronunciation
- an introduction to developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
- an opportunity for peer teaching and classroom observation
- information on further TESOL teacher training options and TESOL teaching opportunities in Australia and overseas.
Aims of the Course
- to raise awareness of issues that impact on the teaching-learning relationship
- to consider the impact on successful learning the teacher has as a result of what and how he/she facilitates the learning process
- to raise awareness of language systems and to consider best practice in helping students develop their understanding of meaning, pronunciation, form and use of the language
- to raise awareness of language skills, of what is involved, and how best to help students develop these skills
- to increase appreciation of the fact that there is more to English language teaching than simply the language itself.
