How to Apply

Please read the following information very carefully in order to submit a completed application for IELTS test registration. We do not accept incomplete applications and if we need to contact you for further information, you may miss your chosen test date. We also do not accept applications from candidates living outside of Tasmania.

STEP 1

Complete the Application form below. Make sure you fill out both a 1st and 2nd preference test date on the application form and sign page 4. You must answer all questions. If we are unable to accommodate your requested test date, we will include you in the test of your second choice or the next available date for that module and confirm this with you by telephone or e-mail.
STEP 2

Online payment can be made using your credit card. Please download the IELTS Online Payment form, complete your details and Sections 1 and 2 of the form, then proceed to the Online payment section. If you do not wish to pay online, please download the IELTS Payment form and complete your details and Sections 1, 2 and 3.

STEP 3

The following documents must be read by each candidate and you will be asked to sign a Declaration to say that you have read the documents.

STEP 4 

Include the following documents with your application:

  • 2 identical passport sized photographs taken in the last 6 months, meeting the following requirements:
    • minimum 35mm W x 45mm H
    • must be in colour
    • glasses are not permitted
    • sign the back of one photo
  • Certified photocopy of the photo page of your current passport.
  • IELTS online payment form/IELTS payment form
   

STEP 5 Read the application checklist to make sure you have completed every step.  We cannot guarantee availability of a requested date. We recommend you apply as early as possible. You can register for the IELTS test in two different ways, by mail or in person - refer below:

Please note incomplete applications will NOT be accepted. Candidates are permitted to register for a maximum of 2 tests at any given time.

OPTION 1:
Mailing IELTS test registration papers

Mail the following documents:

  • Completed IELTS Application form
  • Completed IELTS Payment form (Please refer to Step 2 above)
  • Online receipt or cashier's receipt (if applicable)
  • 2 recent passport sized photographs (sign the back of one photo)
  • Certified photocopy of the photo page of your current passport

For Hobart exams : Chris Dillon, IELTS Administrator, English Language Centre, UTAS, Private Bag 14, Hobart, Tasmania, 7001; or

For Launceston exams : Christine Brown, IELTS Administrator, English Language Centre, UTAS, Locked Bag 1358, Launceston, Tasmania, 7250

A confirmation letter will be e-mailed to you.  Please supply a valid e-mail address.

 

OPTION 2:
Registering in Person in Hobart or Launceston

For Hobart exams: Chris Dillon, IELTS Administrator, Room 214, English Language Centre, UTAS, Hytten Hall, French Street, Sandy Bay. Important: Hobart applications will only be accepted between 11am - 3pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday, applications will be accepted between 12 noon - 2pm.

For Launceston exams: Christine Brown, IELTS Administrator, Room 112, English Language Centre, UTAS, Building F, Newnham, available 9am - 3.00pm.

You should bring with you:

  • Completed IELTS Application form
  • Completed IELTS Payment form (Please refer to Step 2 above)
  • Online receipt or cashier's receipt
  • Your current passport or a certified photocopy of the photo page of your current passport
  • 2 recent passport sized photographs (sign the back of one photo)
 

Upon completion of your application, you will be given a confirmation letter.  Please read it carefully.  You do not need to bring this to the exam.
