Foundation StudentsAbout the Foundation Studies Program

  • The Foundation Studies program is specifically designed for international students who need to upgrade their academic results to meet university entry requirements.
  • This 28 week "Standard" Foundation Studies Program meets the requirements for Foundation Programs which have been registered on CRICOS for delivery in Australia.
  • The Foundation Studies Program offers three major study streams including Science and Engineering, Business and Finance, and Culture and Communication.
  • Successful completion of the Foundation Studies Program provides direct entry to most degree courses at this University including:
    • Environmental, Marine or Antarctic Science
    • Nursing
    • Biotechnology
    • Arts
    • Law
    • Pharmacy
    • Engineering (Marine, Civil, Mechanical, Naval Architecture)
    • and Business.
    • Note: This does not include Medicine or Psychology
  • Please note that entry to Pharmacy is conditional upon your final Foundation results, and the minimum GPA required for this degree program does not guarantee entry due to limited available places. Entry will be awarded on merit.
  • Students must have IELTS scores of overall 5.5 with no score below 5.0 or TOEFL (PBT) 527 and TWE 4 or TOEFL (iBT) 60 with no score less than 17 or PTE Academic 43 with no score lower than 36.
  • A Foundation Access pathway is available for students with a lower IELTS score who need to further develop English skills before starting a Foundation course (see Entry Requirements).
  • Students are taught in small groups by University tutors with very good knowledge of the content of 1st Year University subjects in their area.
  • Foundation Studies students become very familiar with the content of their 1st Year subjects and cover some of the topics in this program.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to commence University of Tasmania degree courses after 28 weeks of study.
